‘Joseon Exorcist’ Cancels Broadcast After Two Episodes As It Faces Controversy

Following the historical distortion scandal, BS’s ‘Joseon Exorcist’ has apparently been cancelled after two episodes.

As previously noted, the drama ‘Joseon Exorcist’ was criticized for using Chinese props and reportedly adding to historical and cultural manipulation, leading to the drama’s cancellation by its sponsors. Professor Seo Kyung Duk of Sungshin Women’s University also spoke out about the show’s supposedly irresponsible treatment of history, claiming that the drama’s material may have long-term historical and cultural consequences.

In this regard, netizens are paying attention to the fact that the director of Japping Korea is Chinese and the director of the Korean representative office of the People’s Daily. Ahn Eun-Joo, a director of Japping Korea Co., Ltd., currently serves as a director of education (business director and representative lecturer) and a director of the Korean representative office of the People’s Daily in China. Ahn is known to be a Chinese national who was born in Harbin, China, lived in China for 20 years, and came to Korea 10 years ago. The People’s Daily, where Japping Korea’s Ahn Eun-Joo is a director, is a newspaper published by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

Despite the fact that the program agreed to suspend airing for a week in order to edit the troublesome segments, it has now been announced that the entire series will be cancelled. According to a source close to the industry, “‘Joseon Exorcist’ will be canceled in the end. Viewers will not be able to see the rest of the show until the material relevant to episode 2 is released. Producer Shin Kyung Soo is in the process of calling the drama’s actors to inform them of the cancellation.”

Aside from the historical uproar, ‘Joseon Exorcist’ had a string of misfortunes leading up to its premiere, including injuries to actors Lee Yoo Bi and Jang Dong Yoon on stage. So far, about 20 companies have withdrawn their funding from the series  and over 184,000 people signed the Blue House petition to cancel the show.
