In reaction to one of the online users accusing him of school harassment, Jo Byeong Gyu has spoken out.
On February 16, someone going by the name “A” posted on Facebook, claiming to have been harassed by Jo Byeong Gyu when they were both attending school in New Zealand. Jo Byeong Gyu’s department ordered a police investigation into the post the next day for spreading false rumors, and it was later reported that the post’s writer had apologised and taken down their post. Since then, the actor has been accused by two other online users (identified as “B” and “D”) and defended by another (identified as “C”) who claims to be a classmate.
On February 19, HB Entertainment dismissed all accusations of school abuse and threatened legal action, while Jo Byeong Gyu discussed the allegations directly on February 23.
On March 10, “D” uploaded a video to his Instagram account detailing what has transpired since he made the allegation.
“D” said that on February 21, he was contacted by a former classmate about a photo that he had used without permission. HB Entertainment’s legal counsel approached “D” via this classmate, demanding “an unprecedented sum” of damages and instructing him to remove the posts and upload an apology note.
“D” explained that he had intended to sign an agreement, write an apology, and call it a day, but the agency told him the next day, “Upload the apology letter first without an agreement,” via a classmate. The loss is substantial, and depending on the outcome, you will be required to pay penalties. The longer you wait to post your apologies, the more damage you can cause.” After consulting with a lawyer friend, “D” opted against writing the apology.
“D” listed a person he calls “W” who has been sending him DMs nonstop since February 24. “W” seemed to be aware of what was going on with “D” and gave him and those around him malicious texts.
The messages went unanswered until March 4, when “D” responded that he would write another post focused on the facts to refute the agency’s allegations, and the DMs ceased. In an Instagram message, “D” expressed his suspicion that “W” was connected to HB Entertainment and asked the company to confirm this.
“D” also demanded an explanation from the department as to why their lawyer’s letter listed “a group of accomplices” because “D” was a lone person making the allegations on his own. “D” also demanded that the department prove anything in front of the media.
In the message, “D” also revealed that he had lost his job as a result of the situation’s tension.
On the same day, Jo Byeong Gyu responded to “D” with an Instagram message. Here’s what it says:
