Hi everyone! I’m an ILoveKStars editor and I want to share my reviews with the recent K-drama — True Beauty.
DRAMA SYNOPSIS
Im Ju-Kyung is a high school student. Since she was little, she has had a complex about her appearance. To hide her bare face, Im Ju-Kyung always wears make-up. Her excellent make-up skills makes her pretty and she hides her bare face in front others. She gets involved with 2 men; Lee Soo-Ho and Han Seo-Joon.
This drama not only has awesome castings, but the storyline is very relatable as someone who wears make-up everyday.
Why do we wear make-up?
We wear make-up to feel good about ourselves, cover acne or pimples, impress the significant other, and the list goes on and on. The drama touches on an insecurity of a girl who gets bullied just because you’re “ugly”.
Characters
Im Jookyung (Moon Ga Young) She is the main character and she starts to learn make-up and covers what she thinks as “flaws”. But to be honest, she is beautiful as who she is!
Then there is Lee Soo-Ho (Cha EunWoo) who sees Im Jookyung with and without make-up. But of course he likes her the way she is. While Im Jookyung tries her best to not show her no-makeup face, Lee Suho doesn’t care. I think that’s love!
Of course, we cannot forget about our second lead (SL syndrome just hit us so hard!): Han Seo-Joon (Hwang In Yeop). He also has that loveline with Im jookyung – strong outwards, softy inside.
And lastly we have Kang Soo Jin (Park Yoona) as Jugyeong’s bestfriend and Su-ho’s childhood friend, and she harbors a crush on Su-ho. Su-jin is a natural-beauty and an intelligent girl who comes from a wealthy family. She is nice and friendly, and becomes close friends with the transferee Ju-kyung at Saebom High School. But you gotta watch the drama to see what happened between her and Jugyeong!
Having them as a cast to this interesting story makes it more reasonable to watch it, especially how this relationship chart presents their relationship to each other!

All three characters have their own stories – little bit of emotional scars and hurts. This truly reflects our current day-to-day life! We all carry insecurities, hurts, trauma, etc. But just like how these three friends slowly open up and support, forgive each other- I am reminded that true friendships matter! Surroundings matter!
This drama can be seen as a cliche Korean teen drama, but the more we look into each character and the narrative- we can explore its depth of the story!
Webtoon or Drama?
Though this drama is based on a Naver webtoon and has many differences, people have preferences whether they prefer webtoon or the drama. Me? I enjoyed both. Drama did a good job going with the plot yet bringing in different scenes too! Maybe because the actors were good?
Editor’s Score: 9/10
I would say this drama is 9/10! Very entertaining! Loved the actors! Loved the storyline! I watched all on time because each moment was so entertaining! So I recommend you to watch it if you haven’t already!
And lastly, YOU are beautiful as who you are!
